About Aki Bevin
When I was still living in Japan, I honestly didn’t find the culture all that interesting. Everything felt normal to me—nothing new, nothing particularly special. That’s natural, of course, because it was simply the everyday environment I grew up in. :) But after moving to Europe, my perspective changed. By experiencing life in a different cultural context, I began to notice just how unique Japanese language and culture could be. Things that once seemed ordinary to me—like bowing, using honorifics, or even the way we express emotions in writing—suddenly appeared fascinating when I looked at them from the outside. The Japanese language itself can be both beautiful and challenging, just as any other languages. Many learners find the writing system—hiragana, katakana, and especially kanji—difficult at first. It’s true, Japanese requires patience and steady practice. But there’s no need to stress too much about it! Everyone struggles with certain aspects of the language, and that’s completely normal. Over the past year and a half, teaching both privately and at a language school, I’ve noticed that students often approach learning in very different ways. Some are what I call “context-learners.” They like to start with the bigger picture: exploring real-life topics like Japanese media, everyday conversations, or understanding anime. For them, it’s important to see how everything fits into context before diving into the details. Others are more like “detail-learners.” They feel more comfortable beginning with structure and clarity. They prefer to analyze grammar, practice specific exercises, and build a strong foundation before applying it to broader contexts. Neither style is better than the other—they’re simply different. That’s why, when we start working together, I’ll try to figure out what kind of learner you are and adapt the lessons to your natural style. If you’re a context-learner, we’ll focus more on immersive and practical content. If you’re a detail-learner, we’ll spend more time breaking down grammar and vocabulary step by step. And if you’re somewhere in between, we’ll create a balance that works for you. Most importantly, no matter what your style is, we’ll make learning Japanese both effective and fun. My goal is to support you in a way that feels natural to you, so that you can not only study Japanese but also truly enjoy the process.

Dia dhuit! My name is Aki, and I grew up bilingual in Japan, speaking both Japanese and German.
Languages have always been a big passion of mine—I love learning them, and just as much, I enjoy helping others on their language journey.
I have been teaching Japanese privately for a year and a half, and I also work at a language school, where I teach students of different ages and levels. Through this experience, I’ve learned how important it is to adapt lessons to each learner’s needs—whether that’s focusing on speaking, writing, grammar, or just building confidence step by step.
If you’re interested, I can also share my knowledge of Japanese calligraphy (shodō), in which I hold a semi-master level. It’s a beautiful way to connect with the cultural side of the language while practicing brush technique and mindfulness.
I’d be very happy to support you in your Japanese learning journey and look forward to getting to know you!
