About Jay France

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been a part of the music industry for over 10 years.

I have played in numerous professional function bands. I have previously toured the UK and Europe with the bands playing all styles of music and covering thousands of songs, major festivals, recordings and world tours.
I am an accomplished songwriter and have written over a thousand songs in many different genres and styles. I have experience writing for various artist in the Music industry.

I started my music teaching career volunteering in a local music school, teaching in large groups and one on one lessons. I was then offered a music teachers post within the school, in this time I gained valuable experience teaching and working with students with various needs and ability levels.

The students that I taught ranged in musical and technical ability. I found it incredibly rewarding teaching a student who had previously never played an instrument, to seeing their progress week by week so they were able to play at a good level.

I was then offered a teaching position with a performing arts secondary school in South East London. In my time at the school I learnt how to keep the student engaged in their lessons. I wanted to make the lessons fun, enjoyable and educational all whist staying professional. I also gained valuable skills regarding lesson plans; making sure I was prepared for every lesson.
During the lessons I thought that the most important thing was to make sure the student and the student's learning is the key focus of the whole lesson. I have gained valuable experience teaching at key stage 3, GCSE level.

I am friendly, punctual and reliable and always give the full hour.

I like to tailor-make lessons for each individual student. I actively encourage students to pick songs they enjoy to learn as opposed to imposing songs selected by me. All my students have the option to learn to read music but we can also structure lessons around ear training. A mixture of both reading and ear training may also be selected and is highly recommended. All my students spend circa 80% of their lesson playing on the instrument.

I would like to add that practice is an essential part of learning to play, this would be your choice, but I encourage my students to practice regularly, as the best results can be achieved by those that do.
