About Kathryn
I started teaching in a college, with no experience or training. I was terrified but as soon as I started, I loved it. It brought out the best in me and in turn it brought out the best in my students. I think my passion for it stems from the lack of confidence students often have about maths; that inspires me to help them and build their confidence. I am so excited when my learners pass the qualification they are aiming for, for me that is better than Christmas!

Discussion is key to my teaching so that I can ascertain my student's understanding in order to enhance and build on it. I have not always found maths easy so I empathise with, encourage and counsel learners when they find maths difficult. Students tend to warm to me because they can see that I care about their learning and about how they are feeling in the learning process. I have 15 years of experience in teaching in colleges and private tuition. I have taught adult students in a college for the last 8 years and during the last 2 years, I have taught online on a one-to-one basis. My experience is mainly GCSE and Functional Skills, but I have tutored children from the age of 7 upwards. Lessons tend to be 1 to 3 hours long. I have a degree in Maths and Economics and a teaching qualification.
