About Selene
I have spent five innovative years helping more than 165 students explore the cutting-edge interface of chemistry and computation. My academic background includes a doctoral degree in computational chemistry and research experience in molecular modelling of catalytic systems. I have worked in academic research and technology education giving me expertise in both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of computational chemistry. My students include those preparing for chemistry degrees at research universities and those interested in the growing field of cheminformatics and materials modelling. I am known for my technical expertise my enthusiasm for computational tools and my ability to make abstract quantum concepts accessible through visualisation. I maintain an extensive library of computational exercises software tutorials and molecular datasets. Outside of teaching I contribute to open-source chemistry software participate in computational science conferences and enjoy programming as a hobby. I believe that computational chemistry is transforming how we understand and design molecules and I am passionate about preparing students to participate in that transformation.

My chemistry teaching is innovative and computationally oriented introducing students to the powerful tools of molecular modelling and computational chemistry. I teach students to use professional software for molecular visualisation density functional theory calculations and molecular dynamics simulations. Computational chemistry is taught as a complement to experimental chemistry showing students how theory and simulation can predict molecular properties reaction pathways and spectroscopic features. I emphasise the physical principles underlying computational methods including quantum mechanics statistical mechanics and thermodynamics. For organic chemistry I teach students to use computational tools to predict conformations analyse transition states and understand reaction mechanisms at the molecular level. Physical chemistry is enriched through computational exercises that illustrate concepts like entropy free energy and reaction kinetics. I teach students to evaluate computational results critically understanding the approximations and limitations of different methods. For exam preparation I provide comprehensive coverage of traditional chemistry content while introducing students to the computational tools used in modern research. I also guide students in developing computational research projects and preparing for chemistry degrees that emphasise theoretical and computational work.
