About Dylan
I am a Bioscience graduate from the University of Exeter with over six years of teaching experience, including four years of providing specialised tuition to students in south-east London. My work has involved supporting students with varied learning styles and goals, helping them to excel academically. I currently teach science and mathematics part-time at an independent school in London, and hold Goldsmiths University accredited qualifications in Teaching and Learning, as well as Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). My teaching philosophy is rooted in the recognition that standardised, exam-based education can be challenging for many students. To address this, I focus on minimising rote learning and guiding students to approach problems from first principles, wherever the curriculum allows. This approach not only enhances critical thinking but also fosters deeper engagement and academic achievement. I am currently taking only online students but please get in touch as I may be able to travel for in-person lessons if the distance is not to great! I have experience working with students of varying educational needs and backgrounds (including SEND, Oxbridge applicants and adults in teacher training). As such, I am able to cater lessons towards the academic skill set required by the student. I understand that standardised exam-based education can be laborious for many students and so I have worked on means to minimise rote learning and allow students to solve problems from first principles as and where the curriculum allows.

Dylan gave me lessons in melodic improvisation that I found invaluable to developing as a vocalist. He showed me how to approach melody by breaking down the individual components so that I could conceptualise them in the simplest terms as possible in order to focus on the creative aspect of improvisation. His open attitude to different types of learning made it easy to feel comfortable and open up creatively.
