I promote peer learning and 21st-century methodology over conventional methods. Simplifying concepts to help students learn in the best possible way.

I have been teaching and mentoring students for JEE for last four years, since my first year of college.

I prefer teaching friendly and having mentored over 80+ students, I have nurtured myself with the experience in the past 4 years to develop methods to understand different student's learning potentials, and help all kinds of students with their problems. Being an undergraduate student myself I feel to have a better connect with the students while understanding their learning goals and problems.

  • 1. Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

I teach Physics and Mathematics, primarily focusing on preparing students for Middle School, High school, and the IIT JEE exams. My interest grew from a fascination with how these subjects explain the world around us and the elegance of logical problem-solving. During my own studies, leading up to graduating from IIT Madras in 2022, I realized the importance of understanding core concepts deeply rather than just memorizing formulas. I realized how much I enjoyed problem-solving and simplifying tough concepts. This led me to explore ways to simplify complex topics, making them accessible and engaging, which solidifies my passion for these subjects.
  • 2. What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

The students themselves and the glitter in their eyes I see when I simplify concepts they find difficult, not a template but iterating in a way they understand. I started mentoring for the IIT JEE exams during my first year of college and found it incredibly rewarding to help others navigate the challenges I had faced. Seeing a student grasp a difficult concept or achieve their goals is a powerful driving force. Having mentored over 80 students in the last four years, including 42 through the NGO Avanti, I've seen firsthand the impact that focused, friendly guidance can have. As a recent graduate, I feel I can connect well with students, understand their perspectives, and tailor my teaching to their individual learning styles and potentials.
  • 3. How does your work help society?

Education is fundamental to societal progress. By teaching Physics and Math and preparing students to build a strong foundation for future studies and careers in science and technology. This empowers them to achieve their potential and contribute meaningfully later on. My work with the NGO Avanti, helping underprivileged students access quality preparation for IIT JEE, also contributes to creating more equitable opportunities for talented individuals regardless of their background. Seeing my mentees succeed and enter prestigious institutions just affirms the value of this effort and impact I am able to create in other people's life.
  • 4. If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

While many have influenced me, I particularly admire educators who prioritize clarity and intuition over rote learning. Richard Feynman comes to mind. His ability to break down extremely complex physics concepts into something understandable, often using simple analogies, resonates deeply with my own teaching philosophy. I strive to emulate that approach, simplifying ideas to help students build genuine understanding and confidence in their own problem-solving abilities.
  • 5. Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy activities that involve critical thinking, much like the subjects I teach, I have a diverse range of interests. I'm quite passionate about filmmaking and storytelling, which extends to watching thought-provoking movies whenever I get the chance. On the active side, I enjoy playing sports like badminton and hockey. I'm also an avid reader, often drawn to books that explore complex subjects in an accessible way, like "The Brain" by David Eagleman - a reading suggestion all my students get from me. Beyond that, I really appreciate good food and enjoy the challenge and reward of learning new languages.
  • 6. Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

A particularly rewarding experience comes from my time mentoring students with the NGO Avanti. Over the past two years, seeing all 42 of my mentees clear the JEE Mains was fantastic, but the real pride came when 21 secured excellent ranks in JEE Advanced, landing them spots in the Top 7 IITs. Seven of them even joined IIT Madras. Welcoming them to my own alma mater as my juniors was a powerful reminder of why I teach and the impact mentorship can have. It represents a full circle of learning and achievement that continues to motivate me.
