About Somya
I'm an IELTS and English tutor, professional writer, and a staunch believer in that "Oh!" moment that happens when we understand the "why" behind the word. A writer by trade and a reader by nature, words are how I have always made sense of the world, and helping other people find their footing with them is honestly my favorite thing to do.
After writing countless academic essays on English Literature and Film Studies to a Master's level, I spent over three years as a copywriter at global agencies, writing for brands like Mastercard, Warner Bros., KFC, and Shell, as well as government campaigns.
Now, I teach English to adult learners here in Dublin, many of them newly arrived and building their English from the ground up. I've also coached private IELTS students, each of whom reached a minimum Band 7.5.
I was born in India, grew up in Singapore, and lived in France and Scotland before settling in Dublin. Finding my feet in new places and new languages is something I understand personally — and it's a big part of why I teach the way I do: patiently, without judgment, and always with the sense that we're in it together.
My lessons are personalized, encouraging, and built entirely around you and your goals. The first lesson is free, so we can talk through where you want to get to.

I teach one-to-one online or in person — whichever you're comfortable with — and I keep our communication channels always open, so you know I've got your back.
We start with a free first lesson: no pressure, just a conversation about where you are now, where you want to get to, and how you learn best. From there, every lesson is designed around you — your goals, your strengths, and the specific things tripping you up.
My style is warm and encouraging, but we do real work. I'll explain the logic behind the language rather than just ask you to memorize it, give you honest and specific feedback, and — just as importantly — hype you up, because confidence is half the battle, especially in an exam. I promise you'll leave every lesson clearer and more capable than when you arrived.

- IELTS preparation — all four sections (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and the exam technique that ties them together
- Exam & test English — including SAT English and general test strategy
- Academic & essay writing — structure, clarity, and building an argument that holds
