About Sophie
I am a student based in Hampshire with a love for essay-based subjects. I gained 12 A*s at GCSE and 42 points at the International Baccalaureate (equivalent to 5 A*s at A level in UCAS points). I've frequently tutored younger students on an informal basis, one student of which went from a 5/6 grade average to achieving five 9's and four 8's at GCSE this year. I have a particular skill set in revision techniques and essay-writing, and I received a special commendation from Cambridge University in their R A Butler Politics essay competition. If you'd like any tutoring in subjects such as English, History, RS, Philosophy, Latin, Economics, or help in constructing essays and revision technique, I'm very familiar with the subject content having gone through the exams recently myself. I'm currently raising money for the international development charity VSO, and any proceeds from my tutoring will go to them.

My teaching methodology is very much tailored to the individual student. Dependent on your learning technique (whether you learn aurally, kinaesthetically, or visually), I try a combination of these to see how the student learns best. My experience is best suited to GCSE and A level/ IB students, however I should be able to tailor to any needs. I have always placed an emphasis on active over passive learning, especially the benefits of thorough note-taking and converting these notes into other forms (essays, mind maps, diagrams).

Sophie tutored me throughout my GCSEs and I personally think she's an incredible tutor. I really struggled during some of my academic years especially in English, as I couldn’t apply my knowledge to questions or figure out how to structure my essays. However, Sophie guided me through how to answer questions, the best techniques to use and even how to revise properly which resulted in my (to my amazement ) very good exam results, including 9 A stars and an A. Not only that, but she would experiment with different ways of teaching until she found the perfect one for me and I learnt so so much (She even made me learn words like chiasmus and polysyndeton). I owe her so much and I couldn't recommend her enough!
