About Bernice
Hi! I’m Bernice, a current medical student studying in Sydney with a strong background in biology and a passion for helping others succeed. I graduated in 2022 with an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, where I developed a deep understanding of biology and the skills to approach science critically and effectively. My journey through IB and into medicine has given me both the academic knowledge and practical strategies needed to excel in subjects like Biology—and now I love sharing that with other students. I understand how challenging senior school science can be, especially with the pressure of final exams, so I aim to make each lesson supportive, structured, and tailored to your goals. As a passionate IB/HSC Biology tutor, my teaching approach is built on clarity, engagement, and strategy. I aim to simplify complex biological concepts while helping students develop strong scientific thinking and exam-ready skills. Teaching Techniques & Methodology I focus on building a deep understanding rather than rote memorization. My lessons often include: - Active recall and spaced repetition techniques for long-term memory - Tailored study strategies to target high-yield topics - I also place a strong emphasis on improving students' scientific literacy, especially how to interpret data, write extended responses, and apply knowledge in unfamiliar contexts. ️ Typical Lesson Format Each lesson runs for 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the student’s needs. Sessions usually include: - A quick review of previous content - Focused teaching on a specific syllabus dot point or topic student might need help with - Application through guided questions or exam-style problems Q&A time or homework check-in - Help with summary notes, topic checklists, and revision support outside of class. Qualifications & Experience Highest score for IB 2 years of tutoring experience Who I Teach My lessons are designed for IB Biology students or Year 11 and Year 12 students completing the HSC Biology course
