An informal salutation can take you in very uncomfortable feeling if you’re using the form “tú” with people you were supposed to use form “Usted” and corresponding conjugation. But also speaking by “tú” form may have a very different effect when allowed, and media know that, especially interviewers, but not all non-native speakers.
