About Mary-Jannet
I am a friendly and experienced academic tutor, with over 15 years' experience across History and the Humanities more broadly. I am also a professional musician, specialising in the performance and historical context of eighteenth-century music, and so bring my natural creativity to tutoring in any subject.

My approach: I take great joy in finding different ways to help my students improve their grades or feel more comfortable in their studies - I endeavour always to tailor my teaching style to the needs of each student. I find that best results are achieved when the student is committed and interested, and I am always keen to convey my own enthusiasm for the subject to them.
About my lesson: In general, I find best results are achieved with lessons of 1 hour in length, but I have often taught in blocks of 2 hours with a short break, if we need to achieve a particular goal in a shorter overall timeframe. I always set mini goals at the beginning of each lesson.
My experience: I studied History at Trinity College, University of Oxford, gaining first class degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. More recently, I have completed a PhD in Historical Musicology at Southampton, and have teaching roles at the University of York and Lawrence University London Centre. I have tutored over 30 private academic students over the past decade, in GCSE/A Level History in particular (I am also an OCR examiner), and also in GCSE Latin and Oxbridge entrance preparation.
