About Olivia
I am a History and Politics (MA) student at the University of Edinburgh offering individual and group lessons for English Literature. I am well-versed in essay writing and exam preparation, and have the capacity to analyse interpret, and teach a wide range of literary texts and extracts which students may be covering.

I am a friendly and motivated individual, offering lessons to likeminded students who genuinely want to improve, but maybe need that extra push to get there.
Lessons will be tailored to each student and taught in a relaxed yet informative manner; students will feel comfortable asking any questions they might have, and discussion is welcomed. A typical English Literature lesson, for example, might include at first a read through of the text/extract being studied, before engaging in discussion with the student about how they have interpreted the text, key things they could pick out and analyse, and how this relates to the wider themes within the text. A lesson might also look at how the text/extract fits into exams, and for A-Level students a focus on the literary criticism of the text, to help develop their interpretations and deepen their analysis.
After achieving 8 A*s and 2 As at GCSE, along with A*AA at A-Level, I believe that practice exam questions are perhaps one of the most valuable methods used when teaching. Not only are students better prepared for the exam, but throughout the course of preparation their ability to interpret and analyse texts becomes somewhat second nature, whilst their answers become stronger, concise, and more developed.
I can also offer lessons focus-led by planning and writing essays.
