About Andrew
Welcome to my profile! I am a highly qualified and very experienced teacher and tutor specialising in English tuition (EFL and Mother Tongue to GCSE) French and 11 Plus / entrance exams. I also offer mentoring and have taught in a wide range of educational establishments in the UK and France. A qualified secondary teacher in Modern Languages, I have led language departments and have extensive experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language and Mother Tongue (to GCSE), as well as French and German. Online tutoring lends itself to language teaching and is an easy and convenient way to learn French or English:) With 25 years' teaching and tutoring, including 10 years' tutoring for grammar school 11 Plus tests in Cheltenham and teaching 11 plus skills (VR, NVR, English and Maths) at independent schools in Kent, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Essex, I offer high quality online specialist preparation for the CEM and other grammar school entrance exams. My aim is to help children improve in confidence from Year 3 onwards with a view to preparing as far as possible for grammar school entrance exams. Initially the emphasis is on progress in literacy and numeracy skills. Many of my students gain places at grammar schools across the UK and every student who follows my 11 plus online course will become more confident and able in a number of important areas, including literacy, numeracy and logical reasoning (NVR). Using the latest publications and my own resources, areas which your child needs to focus on are identified within a friendly, family-based online learning environment. If your child has the potential to go to a Grammar School near you, I will guide your child through 11+ question types and share golden tips within a structured course to boost confidence and substantially increase chances of success in the new 11 Plus Tests. My 11 Plus courses are successful as I am a highly qualified and very experienced teacher and really know what I am doing (beware of DIYers without teacher qualifications)... 11 Plus tuition is tailored to your child's needs - activities are differentiated and we build towards the 11+ tests in a structured, positive way. I help to reduce '11 Plus stress' for parents and students through structured preparation and my rigorous but fun lessons where we have two carefully shared mottos: 'Well done - you've got it right!' balanced with 'The more you get wrong, the more you're going to learn! We engaged Andrew to help our daughter to prepare for her 11 plus exam. The tutoring sessions were well-structured and ensured that she went in to the exam feeling confident and well-prepared. Andrew covered not only the curriculum and content of the exam, but also exam techniques. He also tried to make the tutoring sessions enjoyable, which was important. We were very pleased with the whole process, and have now engaged Andrew to help our younger daughter to prepare for her 11 plus exam.
We originally took our daughter to see Andrew at the beginning of Year 4 as we were concerned she was not making progress in her numeracy work. After an initial assessment our concerns were confirmed. Having discussed the situation with our daughter we all decided to book some more sessions with Andrew. Some 18+ months down the line our daughter has grown in confidence with regard to all her school work and is currently working towards taking the 11+ in September 2019. Andrew is a very patient tutor whom our daughter looks forward to seeing on a weekly basis. Now Andrew is based in France and the sessions take place over Skype, it is even more convenient. At the end of each lesson Andrew sends the work to be completed by the following week. We encourage our daughter to complete this work as soon as possible in order to send it back in time for the following week's session. There is also a period set aside at the end of each lesson where we can discuss what progress our daughter has made over the previous week and what areas she needs to concentrate on. All in all, we are very satisfied with the academic progress our daughter has made, but more importantly we have seen her grow in confidence.
