About Pedro
I am a PhD-qualified engineer with a strong academic and professional background in mathematics, science and engineering. I have spent 10 years working as a scientific researcher and 18 years as an engineering consultant, applying advanced mathematics to real-world technical problems.
I have also taught at university level, which has given me experience explaining complex ideas clearly and patiently. More personally, I have supported my own children through GCSE Maths, so I understand the challenges students can face, both academically and in terms of confidence.
My aim is to make maths feel clearer, more structured and less intimidating. I believe that many students are capable of doing well in maths when concepts are explained in the right way and when they are given enough time, encouragement and practice.
I am professional, reliable and patient in my teaching style. I focus on building strong foundations, improving problem-solving skills, and helping students approach GCSE exam questions with greater confidence. My lessons are especially suitable for Year 10 and Year 11 students who want to strengthen their understanding, improve their grades and prepare effectively for their GCSE Maths exams.

My approach to tutoring is calm, patient and structured. I focus on helping students understand the underlying ideas in maths, rather than simply memorising methods. I explain topics step by step, check understanding regularly, and adapt the pace of each lesson to the student’s confidence and ability.
For GCSE Maths, I work through key topics such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, graphs, probability, statistics and exam-style problem solving. I also place strong emphasis on exam technique, clear written working, and identifying the types of questions that commonly appear in GCSE papers.
A typical lesson lasts one hour, although longer sessions can be arranged when useful, especially closer to exams. Each lesson usually includes a short review of previous work, focused teaching on one or two topics, guided practice, and independent questions to build confidence.
I have a PhD in Engineering, 10 years’ experience as a scientific researcher, and 18 years’ experience as an engineering consultant. I have also taught at university level and supported my own children with GCSE Maths, so I understand both the academic side of the subject and the importance of patience, encouragement and clear explanation.
My lessons are aimed mainly at GCSE Maths students in Years 10 and 11, including students who want to improve their confidence, strengthen their foundations, or prepare for exams in a more focused and organised way.
