About Julian

I'm Julian, I enjoy teaching and engaging with people like you. I'm here to help. I have a huge amount of experience and take pride in my work.

Outside of teaching I enjoy motorcycles, skiing, diving, guitar and computer stuff.

About the lesson

I find patterns with common pitfalls that students have in their native language, and I have an understanding of where students can improve quickly in their English ability. Student engagement is key as it keeps the students coming back when they like you.

I have a Diploma in TESOL focusing on syllabus design and academic English helping students pass tests. Over my 8 years teaching in Oslo, Norway I enjoyed teaching a mix of group and private lessons to a wide variety of nationalities. As an ESL teacher, I have a very easily understandable accent and tone when I speak for the benefit of the students.

• General English – I have taught group lessons of all levels to a variety of students including Japanese speakers. I have the ability to engage the class and give students the autonomy and practice they require.
• Private English – I have taught 1000s of private students 1 to 1 with all kinds of different needs. I review the students needs and create a custom course program to help them to fast track their English abilities.
• Business English – My Business English approach is skills based. I help the companies to firstly increase their English level and then base the classes on skills for making presentations, participating in meetings and increase their conversational Business English. I have taught Business English at many large companies in Norway and even lead projects to change the business’s working language from Norwegian to English. This is a project I am skilled in and will be able to apply this in Japan.
• Academic English – I have helped many students to pass their IELTS or TOEFL tests and assisted them to improve their academic writing skills by following a structured approach.
• Workshops – I have conducted many bespoke workshops based on the needs of companies. These usually consist of a contracted fast paced Business English skills workshops or change management workshops changing the business’s woking language from their mother tongue to English as a working language. One memorable workshop I delivered was to get a team of Thai engineers and another team of Norwegian engineers to engage more effectively using English as a working language. Their construction of an oil rig got back on schedule after the workshops.
• Teaching children – I have taught many children over the years of differing ages sometimes with special needs such as dyslexia. Engagement through digital means such as videos, songs and books gets the students on track and having fun learning English.
