About Zach
For the last seven years, I have been committed to fostering vocal development and artistic growth among school and college students, helping them discover the power and joy of singing. I approach each lesson as a personalized journey, where technical proficiency and emotional expression are equally prioritized. My teaching method focuses on core vocal skills such as breath control, resonance, pitch precision, diction clarity, and dynamic control, while simultaneously encouraging students to explore musicality through phrasing, interpretation, and stylistic versatility. I believe that exploring a variety of genres—from classical art songs to modern pop and musical theater—builds vocal flexibility and helps students find their authentic sound. Lessons are structured yet adaptable, blending traditional vocal exercises with innovative tools like video playback, recording technology, and improvisational activities to enhance self-awareness and confidence. I place a strong emphasis on stage presence and performance psychology, teaching posture, movement, and techniques to manage nerves and engage audiences effectively. Goal-setting and reflection are integrated into every phase of the learning process, empowering students to track their progress and celebrate milestones. Many students under my guidance have succeeded in auditions for elite vocal ensembles, college music programs, and theatrical roles, while others have simply grown in confidence and enjoyment of their singing. Above all, I strive to create an encouraging, student-centered atmosphere where singers feel inspired to develop their unique voices, overcome challenges, and express themselves fully through music.

The voice is a unique and deeply personal instrument, reflecting the singer’s identity, emotions, and cultural heritage. My teaching philosophy centers on nurturing this individuality through a balanced integration of technical skill, artistic insight, and cultural awareness. I focus first on building a foundation of healthy vocal technique—efficient breath management, balanced vocal fold closure, resonant tone production, and agility across registers.
These fundamentals are tailored to each singer’s physical makeup and vocal goals, ensuring sustainable progress and vocal longevity. Yet, technique is always a means to a greater end: expressive freedom. Once students achieve technical ease, we embark on the journey of interpretation, exploring what the music communicates beyond the notes. I encourage them to ask meaningful questions about text, mood, and character, and to experiment with phrasing, dynamics, and timbre to convey nuanced emotions.
My teaching embraces a wide repertoire spectrum, including Western classical, jazz, musical theatre, and traditional music from various cultures, highlighting the significance of historical and social context. This approach enriches students’ musical understanding and cultivates respect for diverse artistic expressions.
I also emphasize the importance of mindset—cultivating patience, perseverance, and openness in the face of challenges. Singing is vulnerable work, and I create a nurturing environment where students feel safe to take risks and learn from setbacks. Through thoughtful feedback and self-reflection, they develop critical listening skills and artistic independence. My ultimate aim is to empower each student to become a confident, insightful performer who sings not only with technical proficiency but with heart and cultural integrity.
