I met Matthew five years ago when I was looking for an English tutor to help me start speaking the language. At that time, my English was very poor, and my only goal was to manage basic communication in everyday situations. Thanks to Matthew’s guidance, just two years later I was able to enroll at Edinburgh College for Travel and Tourism, and later continue to university — something I could never have imagined at the start. Matthew is a brilliant teacher: professional, friendly and approachable. His lessons are always engaging, with well-chosen materials that make you forget how difficult learning a new language can feel. He keeps notes of mistakes and corrections during each lesson, then sends them by email afterwards, which is extremely useful for practice and revision. Beyond language learning, Matthew is also a great conversationalist. He has even helped me with my work as a Russian-speaking tour guide, sharing knowledge and insights that I would not have been able to find myself.
