About Melissa
I am a highly qualified and exceptional teacher of mathematics with 8 years classroom experience and many more years experience as a private tutor. I have taught across the entire secondary school spectrum from key stage 3 to A Level further mathematics. I have played an instrumental part in designing schemes of work, developing resources and assessments across the key stages and have a comprehensive understanding of the curricular requirements at each level. Having recently returned from a successful stint teaching in British international schools, I will be working at an academically successful and highly prestigious independent school in North London from September.
I am currently completing a Masters in Mathematics Education at the Institute of Education (UCL) as well as working towards chartered teacher status. My PGCE in Secondary Mathematics (11-18) was awarded by the University of Manchester and I have a BSc in Mathematics (2:1) from the University of Warwick. Having taught in a number of academically selective schools worldwide, I have considerable experience supporting students to achieve the best possible results including preparing students for university entrance examinations. I have been both an A level and GCSE examiner for a number of years so I know how to support students in preparing for external examinations.

I think that all young people can and should find enjoyment in their study of mathematics. Tutoring was my route into becoming a teacher and my talents lie in helping young people become confident in their mathematics abilities by explaining seemingly complex ideas in a variety of ways until they can be understood.
I take the same approach to tutoring as I do to classroom teaching. I want my students to enjoy my lessons, look forward to attending them and make significant progress in them. I want to spark their curiosity, so that they can appreciate the beauty of mathematics and develop their abilities in and passion for the subject. This factors significantly into how I organise my lessons as I am to design activities to promote a depth of understanding, explore connections in the subject as well as incorporate tools to facilitate retention. I make sure that there is a clear and comprehensive record of each lesson for students to refer to afterwards.
To support students with learning in the current climate, I use a variety of learning technologies to tailor the experience for the student. This includes platforms that allow me to view and comment on a student’s work in real time as well as a shared online whiteboard where lessons can be recorded for students to look back on at a later date. I use an iPad Pro to deliver online lessons so as to replicate as best as possible, in-person teaching.
