About Raymond
My name is Raymond Liu, a grade 12 high school student based in Vancouver, B.C. I have a strong passion for teaching, whether it be helping my friends with math questions or tutoring my fellow peers! Outside of academia, I also enjoy hiking, birdwatching, running and anything outdoors-related. Feel free to ask me any questions, I'm happy to chat :)

As a high school student myself, I bring a unique perspective to tutoring. Rather than teaching from the viewpoint of an older adult, I can connect with students as a peer and mentor. This helps create a comfortable learning environment where students feel confident asking questions, making mistakes, and discussing concepts they may not fully understand. My goal is to make learning approachable, engaging, and stress-free.
I believe that every student learns differently, so I tailor my lessons to each individual's needs, strengths, and learning style. I focus on building a strong understanding of core concepts before moving on to more challenging topics. Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students through the problem-solving process so they develop the skills and confidence to work independently.
Each lesson is customized to the student's goals and current level, but generally includes:
A review of previous material and any questions from past lessons.
An explanation of new concepts or skills.
Guided practice through sample questions and worked examples.
Independent problem-solving with support and feedback.
A discussion of mistakes and strategies for improvement.
A summary of key takeaways and recommendations for further practice.
One of my greatest strengths as a tutor is my ability to relate to students. Since I am currently a student myself, I understand the challenges they face and can explain concepts in ways that are easy to understand. Students often find it easier to communicate openly with someone closer to their age, allowing me to build strong relationships and create a positive learning environment.
I am patient, approachable, and committed to helping students gain confidence in their abilities. My focus is not only on improving grades but also on helping students become more independent and effective learners.
