About Caylin
Hello!! I am a senior who is very confident in English. I have a passion for creative writing and love to read. Poetry is definitely one of my favorite writing styles and I aspire to become a great poet as a side hustle when I am older. Other hobbies I have is art, sports, and songwriting.
I am currently in my final year of high school and am studying towards the NCEA English Scholarship exam. English has always been my strongest subject, and over the past four years I have consistently achieved high Merit and Excellence grades in both internal assessments and external exams.
As a current student, I understand the challenges many students face in English classes, particularly when it comes to essay writing and analyzing texts. Because I have recently worked through the same assessments and exams, I have a strong understanding of what teachers are looking for and how students can improve their responses to reach Merit and Excellence levels.

My lessons focus on helping students clearly understand how to build strong ideas and structure their writing in English. Students will learn how to critically analyze a wide range of text, developing deeper interpretations, and express their ideas with clarity and confidence. Rather than simply correcting work I break down complex essay skills into small steps, showing students how to move from basic responses to Merit and Excellence level analysis.
Lessons would typically run around 60 minutes. During the first session I would learn about your strengths and weaknesses, your learning style, and design a study plan that would suit you best. I would then move on to focusing on one or two key skills such as essay structure, close reading, analyzing quotes, expanding ideas, or simply revising/learning language features. I would also work through examples, set engaging activities, and give the student the opportunity to practice and receive feedback. This helps students actively develop their skills rather than just memorizing answers.
I am currently a Year 13 student with consistently high results in NCEA English, achieving High Merit and Excellence grades across both internal assessments and external exams. I am also currently preparing for the New Zealand Scholarship English exam, which requires advanced literary analysis and critical thinking. As a current student, I have strong understanding of NCEA expectations and what teachers look for in high-level responses.
My tutoring is suited for students in Years 9-13 who would like support with essay writing, text analysis, exam preparation, creative writing, and improving their confidence in English.
