Math doesn’t come naturally to me, but she took the time not only to explain the material in a way that made sense to me but also helped me understand that every form of intelligence is equally valuable. Mathematics is the best subject can help students to evolve creative thinking. Therefore, educators believe there are a strong relationship between studying mathematics and increasing creative thinking. Mathematics teachers, however, are required to give the students the opportunity to think creativity in classroom. The teachers are able to provide an effective environment for thinking in classroom. Classroom environment such as order of students in classroom, type of questions, clarity of the purpose of the lesson, and feedback effect on the relationship between teacher and student, and might develop the communication, and facilitate the exchange of information between teacher and student. Bharti mentioned several points will help teachers to promote the creative thinking. Classroom environment has a crucial role to improve students’ creativity. Teacher can employee classroom environment to send the massage to students that the classroom is the best place can precise creative thinking.
In fact, it is all about how to teach it and what teaching approach to use in order to attract the interest of the learners and how the approach can broaden and widen the learners learning abilities. Therefore the intention of this essay is to discuss the role that discovery and direct teaching approach plays in teaching of mathematics in the classroom. Discovery teaching approach is a very effective teachings approach that was mostly used in teaching mathematics. It simply means that, children were given problems and they have to conduct their own research and experiments using formulas and equations in order to find their findings according to a given subject. In this situation, students have to use their prior knowledge in order to solve the problems.
School environments must be respectful, caring, stable, and stimulating atmospheres in order to enhance the learning environment. Students that perceive the atmosphere as friendly, satisfying, focused on goals, and challenging and who feel the classroom has the required materials tend to learn more (Walberg, 1984). Teachers need to commit to students and their learning and become members of the learning community. Teaching students to develop respect for others, their environment, and themselves helps to develop a caring, safe classroom community. In my classroom I would allow students to develop their own set of classroom rules and consequences with my guidance.
I also liked that we were asked to create our own math problems during this quarter. I had not been asked to do that before and found it to be both challenging and rewarding. I will have to write my own problems for classes in the future and want to make sure I ask appropriate questions that engages students and helped them find success. Overall, this has been my favorite math class in the math for teachers series. I felt that I truly learned numerous things that will help me both as a math student and as a math teacher.
The learning of Mathematics at primary level focuses on developing mathematical literacy whereas the secondary level is to help the student acquire problem solving skills and the ability to reason logically.
