About Alexandra
Hello! My name is Alexandra Rhoads. I have a Master's Degree in Education from George Mason University, and have taught in public schools for 5 years, both at the high school and elementary level. I love working one-on-one and in small groups with students, especially on topics that they are interested in and passionate about!
Although I have been a private piano and guitar teacher for over 14 years, in 2019 I made the decision to begin teaching music full time from my home studio. In 2020 I began teaching online and have been overjoyed to meet so many new students from all over the country and the world. In addition to teaching, I have released a couple of albums of original songs and have been a local performing musician, both solo and with a band, for many years.
A fun fact about me is that I love cats and have 2 sweet and friendly cats at home!

Lessons will vary based on the skill level of the student. Any student from complete beginner to more advanced may take lessons! One-on-one interaction with the instructor each week will ensure students will receive constant feedback on their guitar playing. Some of the guitar concepts we will cover are as follows:
-Guitar 101: parts of the guitar, how to tune, how to properly hold the guitar and pick
-Treble clef note reading
-Tablature reading
-Chord strumming and rhythm playing
-Popular guitar scales such as the blues and pentatonic scales, improvisation
-Fingerpicking style and classical guitar
-Learning popular songs of choice - students are encouraged to bring songs that they love to class, to help them stay motivated to practice!
