I offer comprehensive and customized standardized test preparation services meant to help you achieve your best SAT score in as little time as possible. My method is data driven and informed by a number of scientifically proven studying habits. I begin by assessing what areas the student is strong/weak in, and then developing an individualized study plan to address those issues. I teach my students to work through the subject matter on the SAT, and to familiarize themselves with the types of questions that appear on the exam over and over again. I emphasize the importance of understanding the language used on the SAT and help students to decode the keywords and phrases that give away clues about how to approach the question. I also teach my students how to critically analyze the problems they get wrong, so they can understand how to correct these mistakes in the future. As someone who struggled with test-taking anxiety myself, I am well equipped to help students address this issue, as well as perfectionism, and any other factor that may be holding them back. I aim to transform my students into independent learners, who are equipped with strategic problem-solving methods and are confident enough in their own abilities to undertake any academic challenge. I've helped many students increase their SAT scores by around 200 points and am happy to share testimonials.
I also offer college application essay coaching. I teach my students to use these essays as a chance to strategically supplement the information in their applications, so as to create a more complete picture of themselves for the admissions committee. In my experience, teaching students to be more thorough and thoughtful readers helps them to become more engaging writers. Thus, I work with students to become what Virigina Woolf calls the "common reader:" someone who carefully and critically reads with empathy and an open mind. Together, we go through examples of successful admissions essays, critically analyzing the content to learn how these students present themselves, what language they use, and how their writing style impacts the essay's message. From here, I ask students to self reflect on their most meaningful experiences, their values, and their goals to create potential topics and outlines for their admissions essay. I provide extensive feedback on the content and style of the student's drafts, and walk them through the editing process until we have a polished essay ready for their application.
