About Devon
I was an English major in college and earned high grades overall. I have worked with a high school student over a summer with his writing and there was definite improvement. I have edited college students’ papers and high school students’ poetry. I adore writing and reading and I want you to as well!

My approach is student-focused. Our first meeting, I will listen to what you hope to accomplish with our time together. Then, I will gather materials for reading and/or prompts for writing which I will assign to you. We will talk about what a reasonable amount of reading/writing looks like for you. Once you have completed your task, I will take notes on your assignment before we meet so that we can spend time looking together on your assignment and our time feels productive. For reading and writing assignments, there will be a gradual progression in the amount of time and effort required. For instance, we would move from a 150 word prompt to a 1,000 word essay over time. For reading, we would begin with short stories/poems and progress to a book.
I am an active listener and a cheerful encourager; I do not want you to feel disheartened by my notes. I consider this to be a kind of teamwork where we are both honing your skills together.
I am happy to tutor anyone of any age, but I have literacy experience with young children and writing experience with high school age students. I can also assist college students with any essay questions and literature courses.
