About Rosie
I'm Rosie, a recent graduate from the University of Leeds. I studied a joint-honours degree in Biology and History and Philosophy of Science, which was a way to combine many subject areas that I enjoy. I had to study hard at school, particularly in maths based subjects, which impressed on me the importance of understanding in learning. The memorise and repeat method leaves GCSE students without a good understanding of the content, and this understanding is what's required to achieve good grades. Every brain works differently and I'm committed to working with students to help them develop an understanding of how they learn best. I love music and am a classically trained violinist, as well as a gymnast and football fan.

I prefer a more involved tutoring style where the pupil is engaged in practical learning, avoiding memorisation or repetitive learning. Sometimes this involves doing the pupil's school homework together, approaching the task from different perspectives and expanding on classroom learning. I have tutored GCSE students and worked in Germany helping 9 to 11 year olds learn English. Students struggling with science and languages often benefit from a more active teaching style, rather than the passive approach used in schools. I completed 11 GCSEs, all grade 9 bar one grade 7 (maths). My A-Levels were English Lit (A*), Biology (A), Philosophy (A*) and German (A). My degree has improved my knowledge of all subject areas as well as equipping me with the tools to approach difficult subjects (like science and maths) in a less memorisation based way.
