About Daniel

I am a final year university student with 7 years of experience in the Grammar-Translation Method, wherefrom I've gained an adroit understanding of the literary contributions of different authors such as Martial, Caesar, and Virgil.

As a graduate of the Academy Vivarium Novum in Rome, I can say I've had a world-class education that allowed me to develop a keener sense for Latinity, perfecting my grammar and syntax while learning to not just compose short sentences in Latin, but treatises in Ciceronian syntax and more so to converse and think in the language itself. There, I also elevated my textual knowledge of authors like Cicero, Sallust, Plautus, Horace, Ovid, Seneca, and Lucan. Similarly, I've also had a foray into the humanist writings of Petrarch and Mirandola.

I have also co-run the living Latin summer programme Patrimony Reclaimed in Auckland for the years 2024 and 2025. In 2025, we added a Greek course for which I created content and served as an assistant teacher.

I hope to be of help or erudition to you while I develop my command of Latin at the same time.

About the lesson

I am personally an advocate of the natural method and the Lingua Latina per Se Illustrata textbooks published by the linguist Hans Ørberg as essential tools of gaining Latinitas through immersive reading, answering questions in the Latin language itself, and conversational practice. All these exercises will encourage the student to develop a headspace that is purely Latin where the internal dialogue is computed thusly. At the same time, I'll provide grammatical diagrams and documents of syntactical rules after I've explained each new grammatical function we come across and how to use it in composition.

If, however, your preference is the grammar-translation method, I am capable of teaching through controlled lessons that separates grammar from reading authentic texts or a Latin textbook. We may use a textbook of your preference, be it the Cambridge Latin Course, Wheelock's Latin, Ecce Romani or anything else.
