About AJ
Hi! My name is AJ, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science. I am also a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and have experience working in education, giving me both a strong academic background in the sciences and experience helping students learn and succeed.
My academic and professional background has given me a strong foundation in Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Health Science, and other human-movement and exercise-related subjects. I particularly enjoy helping students understand how the concepts they learn in the classroom apply to the human body, movement, exercise, and sports.
As someone who has completed challenging college-level coursework myself, I understand that subjects like anatomy and physiology can sometimes feel overwhelming. I aim to create a comfortable, supportive environment where students can ask questions, work through difficult concepts, and build confidence in their abilities.
I also have experience working in education, which has strengthened my ability to explain complicated topics in different ways and adapt my approach to the individual student. Whether you need help preparing for an exam, understanding a difficult concept, reviewing coursework, or simply want to feel more confident in your class, I am happy to tailor our sessions to your needs.
I primarily work with high-school and college students, particularly those studying Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Science, and related subjects. I also enjoy working with students pursuing health-related fields such as pre-physical therapy, exercise science, kinesiology, and other allied-health programs.
My goal is to make difficult material feel more manageable while helping students develop the understanding and confidence they need to succeed—not simply memorize information for the next exam.
I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your academic goals!

My approach as a tutor
My approach is centered around understanding concepts rather than simply memorizing information. With a B.S. in Kinesiology with a focus in Exercise Science, experience working in education, and a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) credential, I have developed a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, exercise science, and human movement.
I believe students learn best when they understand why something works, not just what the correct answer is. I therefore try to break complex concepts into manageable pieces, connect them to real-world examples, and use questions and discussion to help students work through problems independently.
Teaching methods and techniques
My tutoring style is individualized based on the student's course, learning style, and current level of understanding. Depending on what a student needs, I may use:
Step-by-step explanations of difficult concepts
Practice questions and problems
Review of homework, assignments, and study materials
Diagrams and visual explanations for anatomy and physiology
Real-world examples related to exercise, sports, and human movement
Active recall and retrieval-based studying
Practice tests and exam preparation
Identifying and correcting gaps in foundational knowledge
Breaking complicated topics into smaller, easier-to-understand concepts
Rather than simply giving students the answer, I try to guide them through the reasoning process so they can eventually solve similar problems independently.
A typical lesson
A typical session begins with a brief discussion of what the student is currently working on and what they are having difficulty understanding. From there, we identify the most important concepts to address and work through them together.
For example, an Anatomy & Physiology session might look like:
1. Quick review — Identify what the student already understands and where they are struggling.
2. Concept explanation — Break the difficult material into simpler components.
3. Application — Work through practice questions, diagrams, or examples together.
4. Guided practice — Have the student explain or solve problems themselves while I provide guidance and feedback.
5. Review — Summarize the key concepts and identify anything that should be reviewed before the next session.
I can also adapt sessions specifically for upcoming exams, assignments, lab practicals, or areas where a student is struggling.
What sets me apart
One of my biggest strengths is my ability to connect classroom science with practical applications.
My background in kinesiology and exercise science allows me to explain anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and exercise concepts in ways that connect directly to the human body, movement, exercise, and sports. My experience working in education has also taught me how important it is to adapt explanations to the individual student rather than assuming that everyone learns the same way.
I also understand what it is like to take challenging college-level science courses myself. My goal is to create a tutoring environment where students can ask questions freely, work through mistakes without feeling judged, and ultimately become more confident and independent learners.
Who I work with
I am particularly well suited to working with high-school and college students taking courses such as:
Anatomy & Physiology I & II
Human Anatomy
Human Physiology
Biology
Human Biology
Exercise Physiology
Exercise Science
Kinesiology
Biomechanics
Health Science
Introduction to Strength & Conditioning
General fitness/exercise science coursework
I am especially interested in working with kinesiology, exercise science, pre-physical therapy, health science, and other health-related students who want to better understand how the human body works and how concepts from their coursework apply to movement and exercise.
My goal is not simply to help students get through their next assignment or exam, but to help them develop a stronger understanding of the material and the confidence to apply it independently.
