About James
I have a deep passion for learning being accessible and exciting. I have personally experienced the very damaging effects of what poor teachers can do personal motivation to learn more about a subject and as such I wish to ensure passion can be maintained through personally curated material which will allow the student to deepen their understanding of the subject.

My main fields of experience are History and Classics which I studied at Edinburgh University, which is both highly ranked and also a member of the Russell group. My specific areas of expertise within history are; The Spanish Civil war including the context behind it; Germany from 1871 to 1945; British history more broadly but specifically a focus on British foreign and domestic policy from 1914 to the present day; I also have expertise on both World Wars and the Cold War both in general and with specific parts of it such as the Korean and Vietnam wars.
As for Classics my expertise lies mostly within the historical and archaeological realms of the subject rather than the linguistic side however I do have some knowledge of Latin. I can provide expert tutoring in; Ancient Athenian theatre; Ancient Athenian religious practices; The Peloponnesian war; The Late Roman Republic into early Roman empire; The Punic Wars; Mythology of both the Greeks and Romans
I can also offer tutoring on contemporary British politics, both the structures which form the British state as well as on political ideologies and concepts of International Relations.
I can offer sessions of an hour at a time and I aim to ensure the student is engaged with active learning rather than simply lecturing. The teaching would also be tailored to specific strengths and weaknesses of the student and I would eagerly welcome feedback after sessions.
I am able to cater for any age/level of experience and the material will reflect the age appropriately.
