I’ve been having weekly singing lessons with James and he is an incredible teacher. He puts you at ease and is great at explaining techniques, guiding you through the songs to then utilise these methods to get the most out your voice. I’m a beginner and I have already noticed a huge improvement in my singing and confidence. Would highly recommend!

James is an excellent singing tutor, he’s very knowledgeable about the vocal track and technical singing- as well as being extremely easy to get along with and have fun with during lessons as well as making significant progress on your voice in a short amount of time.

I would highly recommend James to anyone looking for a private singing tutor. His knowledge around the anatomy of the voice and the acting techniques in acting through song is amazing. He has such a kind and supportive way of teaching and I felt super relaxed. I learnt so much in my 45minute session. He really helped me to unlock more bravery in storytelling when singing and I learnt lots about how the breath works with the voice when singing.

I met James working on a musical. James had an exceptional voice and afterwards I saw that he was giving private lessons. I wanted help with my singing, as although I landed a couple of singing jobs, I felt like I always fluked my successful auditions and got the roles more so because of my acting. I only had brief singing training from my Acting degree at drama school and I wanted to know how to really sing; not just how to sing well enough. When I got onto MT jobs, I always felt out of my depth and sometimes a little embarrassed.

After just my first lesson with James, he’d shown me techniques to access a higher register. On the job we’d performed, I had to go lower at one of the verses where everyone else went higher, because it was too high for my voice. From one lesson with James, I was already singing that verse in the higher register. James showed me the proper technique to reach it safely and I now sing that song all the time to myself in the car with ease. I can also sing other songs which go higher than this one and James has shown me the proper technique to safely belt these notes.

James has helped me to understand that different songs require different styles and techniques. I’m learning so much and I feel like each week I have lots to work on and practice. I’m now in a place where I really feel like I can sing, whereas before I really couldn’t. I can sing a variety of songs with different styles and placements. We’ve worked from the lowest ranges to the highest ranges and what techniques best suit the tone of each song.
I was also the kid in the school musical ensemble that got asked to mime. If 17-year-old me could see the singing I’m doing now with James, he wouldn’t believe it!

Beyond being able to sing, I know so much more about vocal health, how to control my airflow, my breath control and what makes good singing.

James is very kind, patient and fluid. If I have a problem he’ll think of something on the spot to help me overcome it. He has great knowledge of the voice and what MT songs may best suit my voice. He’s also very fun and a lovely person, I always look forward to our lessons.

James was amazing during my 1-1 singing lesson with him. We worked on “The Last Midnight” from Into The Woods and we could both hear and see the progression made during a single singing lesson. James works incredibly on enhancing your vocal ability as well as working on your storytelling of the song as well. James creates a warm and safe space with absolutely zero judgement. I very much enjoyed my session with James and would very much recommend his singing lessons for any other performers that are searching for singing lessons.
