About James
James is a jazz trumpet player who recently graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire studying with various jazz greats. James holds a chair in the Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra. James has performed in venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall, Birmingham Town Hall, The Cavern Club and he also runs a fortnightly gig at Second Cup café in Birmingham. Whilst studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire James has received coaching from Drew Gress, Tim Berne and John Fedchock. With the Conservatoire jazz orchestra, James got to perform with Paul Dunmall and his band featuring Hamid Drake. Also, in 2019 James performed with John Surman under John Warren's conducting at Cheltenham Jazz Festival as part of the brass project with other Birmingham Conservatoire students. As a teacher, James has taught in various conditions over the last few years. As well as teaching privately, most recently James was a part of the Cheltenham Festivals Musicate Programme, teaching the fundamentals of music to primary school students.

As a teacher, I believe in making sure that each of my lessons is best suited to the student I am teaching. As a brass player, I am always working on my own technique and trying new forms of practice to improve my own playing and so I understand what I am teaching. I received a BMus Jazz Hons from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2021. I spent 4 years at the conservatoire bettering myself as a performer but also as a teacher. I studied all pedagogy modules offered to me on my course and I also taught outside of my course. I can teach all ages and all levels. In our first lesson, I would assess what level the student is at and then angle my teaching to best fit that student. I teach 1-hour lessons or half an hour lessons depending on the student's age or what they request.
