About Defne
Defne Ozkan is an actress and writer from Istanbul, Türkiye. After graduating from the prestigious Kadıköy Anadolu High School, she moved to New York to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting at Pace University.
She has appeared in a range of New York productions, including Jimmy Fallon’s Tonightmares and the feature film The Day After Yesterday, as well as numerous Off-Broadway productions, short films and emcee for Turkish Airlines. Her recent stage work includes Stories Will Not Mend This Broken World, a play addressing the 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye. In addition to acting, she translated and directed a staged reading of I Close My Eyes and Do My Duty by the legendary Turkish playwright Haldun Taner.

My acting classes are shaped by my professional training at Pace University Sands College of Performing Arts (BFA Acting) and my experience working across film, television, and stage in New York. I use a student-centered approach that blends technique with creative exploration, focusing on script analysis, emotional truth, and physical presence while encouraging each actor to develop their own unique voice. A typical lesson begins with warm-ups in voice and movement, followed by improvisation or technique-based exercises, and then focused work on scenes or monologues with personalized feedback. What sets me apart as a tutor is my active involvement in the industry and my multicultural perspective, allowing me to guide students not only in performance but also in navigating auditions, storytelling, and confidence-building in a real-world context. My lessons are designed for a wide range of students—from beginners discovering acting for the first time to advanced performers preparing for auditions, drama school applications, or professional work—offering tailored guidance based on each individual’s goals and experience level.
