About Evan
During my time in college, I spent roughly 2 years as a writing tutor for those in undergrad and master's programs. I ranged all the way from editing to diving into different subjects, assigned by professors, to write about thoroughly. I’m very comfortable with challenges, working through them with the student I’m helping, coming up with a solution in a Socratic-based method. I’ve found that guiding students to the answer and point works significantly better than just directly telling them. In order to understand a concept, you have to nail the basics first. Of course, not every student’s learning patterns are the same so adapting to what’s best for them is key, but allowing the student to solve their own problems reinforces a sense of accomplishment and confidence, which is one of my main goals as a tutor!

I used to struggle in my English classes in elementary, middle, and even high school. It was in college that I finally learned to appreciate and understand how incredible English really is. Through basics in writing to help me produce profound and professional writing, as well as digging into literature through the lens of American Gothic texts and classics, I realized a newfound and unique perspective of reading and writing. Additionally, I’ve struggled with ADD my entire life which really took an unexpected turn with reading comprehension and writing style when I was younger. Thanks to my professors who worked with me constantly, I came to have an appreciation and love for the degree I was applying myself towards. I want to help those who also struggle with the concepts that I too struggled in, garnering confidence through abilities and skills that were not as strong beforehand!
