About Claire
I loved being a chemistry tutor at Franklin & Marshall College. It allowed me the opportunity to see other students fall in love with chemistry who initially believed they would hate it. It also allowed me the opportunity to grow as a tutor with lessons each week during tutor meetings that provided us with information on how to handle each and every situation to the best of our abilities. However, as a tutor there is nothing I love more than seeing my tutees week after week improve when it comes to quizzes and exam scores. Seeing their confidence grow is one of the most rewarding experiences.

As a tutor I let the tutee hold the pencil not me. Instead of showing them what to do, I first see what they already know how to do. I encourage them to reexamine their notes and use all of their own knowledge from class to approach each problem and only jump in when necessary. I don't show my tutees how to do chemistry problems, I teach them how to learn and understand chemistry problems, so when it comes to exams they know the concepts necessary for success. I don't tutor to memorize, I tutor to grow in the subject and learn to enjoy chemistry! A typical lesson plan consists of running through an overview of the concept, completing a few practice problems in relation to the concept, and then attempting to answer real world/lab based problems to finish up the session. These lessons are for high schools students currently taking chemistry, as well as college students currently enrolled in General Chemistry I or II.
