About Katerina
From a young age, I’ve had a deep passion for both learning Spanish and exploring Spanish-speaking cultures. Language learning is a thrilling journey—it opens doors to new worlds, introduces you to diverse people, and provides opportunities for self-discovery. I’m a firm believer that anyone, at any age, can embark on this exciting path. My journey with Spanish began in middle school and continued through high school. But it wasn’t until I spent a year living in Peru at the age of 18 that I truly grasped the power of immersion—both linguistic and cultural. Although it was challenging, that experience left me feeling more empowered and confident. It also sparked a deep desire to study Spanish at the university level, where I took some of my most rewarding classes. I’ve always been fascinated by the sociolinguistic aspects of language, and understanding how language shapes identity and culture continues to be a passion of mine. Spanish has also opened professional doors for me. I worked on neurocognitive research at Columbia University, where I conducted studies in both English and Spanish with participants. This experience further reinforced how valuable language skills are in the real world. Now, I’m excited to guide my students through their own language-learning journeys. But my goal goes beyond just teaching Spanish—I aim to foster global citizens who appreciate the value of language and cultural exploration. With my personal experiences, academic background, and professional expertise in Spanish, I’m confident I can help you grow your skills in a comprehensive and meaningful way. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you as you embark on your own journey with the Spanish language!

With a degree in Psychology, I aim to utilize engaging tactics for memorization. For me, there is no better way to learn, than to do and experience. As such, I prioritize engaging students with personalized lessons tailored to their interests. Enjoy sports? Great! Let's dig into soccer teams and get to know their players in Spanish. Into cooking? We'll watch Spanish cooking shows and debrief recipes.
For example, by the end of a lesson, students will improve their understanding of Spanish vocabulary, grammar, and culture through interactive and authentic activities. Students will be able to have a basic conversation using common phrases and gain insight into Spanish-speaking cultures.
I believe it’s essential for students to have a voice in shaping their lesson plan because, ultimately, they understand their own learning style better than anyone else. My goal is to make every lesson engaging, fresh, and varied, so that students feel motivated and excited to learn something new each time.
