About Lena
Hi! I’m Lena, currently studying Maths with Finance and Economics at university, and I’ve always had a real passion for maths. At A-Level, I studied both Maths and Further Maths, which really helped me build a strong foundation and deepen my understanding of the subject. That experience sparked my interest in supporting others with their learning, especially when it comes to breaking down complex ideas into something more approachable. I know that maths can sometimes feel overwhelming, which is why I always aim to explain things in a clear, simple, and relatable way. My goal is to create a relaxed and supportive space where students feel confident asking questions, making mistakes, and growing from them. I truly believe that with the right guidance and encouragement, every student has the ability to improve and even enjoy maths. Whether you’re preparing for exams, tackling tricky topics, or just looking to build your confidence, I’m here to help. I want to make maths feel a little less intimidating—and hopefully a lot more rewarding!

I offer tutoring for primary and GCSE students who are looking to strengthen their understanding of maths and build confidence. A typical 1–2 hour session is broken down into the following key stages: 1. Warm-Up / Recap (10–15 minutes): Each lesson begins with a short recap of previous material or a warm-up activity. This helps activate prior knowledge, identify any gaps in understanding, and ease the student into the session with familiar content. It also serves as a confidence boost by reinforcing what they already know. 2. Focused Teaching & Support (30–60 minutes): The main part of the lesson is tailored to the student’s individual needs, focusing on areas they find difficult or need to improve in. I use clear explanations, guided examples, and active questioning to deepen their understanding and help them feel more confident in tackling challenging topics. Lessons are interactive and student-led wherever possible to encourage engagement. 3. Exam Practice & Technique (15–30 minutes): We work through exam-style questions to apply what’s been learned, strengthen exam technique, and develop problem-solving skills under timed conditions if appropriate. I provide detailed feedback and strategies for answering questions effectively, helping students feel more prepared and less anxious about assessments. 4. Review & Planning Ahead (10–15 minutes): At the end of the session, we summarise key points covered and reflect on progress made. I then outline what we’ll be working on in the next lesson based on the student’s ongoing needs. I may also suggest a small amount of homework or independent practice to reinforce learning and encourage consistent progress.
