About John
After several years of teaching and a PhD, I moved into business where I focused on the Securities Industry, the Stock Market. There, I spent the next 25 years working, as a Vice President for domestic and international investment dealers including Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank and CIBC. I worked with stockbrokers, traders, research analysts and investment bankers. I met with mutual fund, pension fund and hedge fund managers as well as venture capitalists and angel investors. During this time, I have had hundreds of introduction or update meetings with CEOs of large and small companies from all industries, including inventor/entrepreneurs who were running start-ups. I did business with professional investors in Canada, the US and the UK. I also helped a number of young people join the industry, including a few who went on to become stars.

• We look at how new companies are incorporated, how their stock begins trading in the market, how some companies acquire other companies or how they are acquired, how they succeed or fail.
• We look at how people enter the industry: the research preparation they do, the introductions they look for and the networking they do to stay current with changes in the business and to expand their circles of professional contacts.

McMaster UniversityJohn has a broad business background with detailed knowledge of several industries. Over the last couple of years I have discussed a number of different business opportunities with him and found his advice to be very good. He is quick witted and always easy to talk to.
I've known for John for more than 30 years. His academic expertise matched with his years in the securities industry, where precision and insightful narative are essential for success, makes him an ideal counseler for anyone who
needs to add clarity and a professional veneer to their English language communication skills. He is a very good listener and an excellent instructor, and will be an invaluable asset for those seeking professional polish to their presentations, whether it be sales, research or academic projects. Highly recommended !"My grade 9 son, who had been an enthusiastic reader in his younger years, had become a semi-reluctant reader and seemed to have really lost interest.
John selected books that both interested him and challenged him. My son actually read them and developed informed opinions. John's reading selections, coaching and support has reignited his interest in books and broadened his perspective. This has been one of the best academic interventions we could have made and it will have long lasting effects." - AlexandraJohn Kirby is a veteran businessman with broad knowledge of many industries acquired during years of work in sales and consulting. Several years ago he helped me in my Real Estate business by writing several first rate marketing letters that helped to win new business. His spoken and written communication skills are superb. Any businessperson starting out would benefit from time spent reading, writing and speaking with John. Do yourself a favor and meet him.
JonathanJohn and I had parallel careers in Investment Banking, working both as colleagues and friendly competitors. John is an excellent exemplar of the Socratic method of teaching, because he engages his learners in back-and-forth discussion, and I was able to learn much from him in the early years of my career. Later, our friendship evolved into more of a peer- to-peer learning model, where we learned from each other through discussion and mutual analysis of trends.
I believe that John is very well equipped to communicate with today's learners in both one-on-one tutor and group facilitator modes, based on these personal experiences.
Whether you are a beginner or more advanced and looking to refine your skills to the highest level, John's terrific command of business English is such that he can help early-stage learners grasp what they need in a very accessible way. It also makes him an ideal choice for someone looking to stretch the high end to gain an edge.I have known John for over forty years as he functioned as an account executive and as a consultant. In recent years he has helped me in my Investor Relations firm.
We have partnered in several marketing projects in Canada and the US for a variety of industries including mining, IT, and investment research. Over the years, I have seen John conduct numerous investor presentations clearly and smoothly. He readily connects with both small and large audiences.
John relates easily with people.
He has always been a pleasure to work with.
