About Daniel
I'm a caver, hiker, at-home experimenter, Washingtonian, and South Seattleite. To be honest, I used to have a lot of trouble learning in a classroom setting, and I relate to those like me who don't have their needs met in the conventional classroom. I once had an economics teacher who wrote only in abbreviations on the whiteboard after introducing new terms only once... I learned nothing in that class, and can guarantee I will do better than that.
I work hard to translate science into layperson's speech and fill in the gaps that traditional schooling creates, especially for unconventional learners. I believe that science is effectively useless if it can't be broken down into meaningful sentences. I practiced this in part by reading countless scientific journal papers and writing one-page summaries of them... but I won't make you do that.
I started as a literacy tutor in middle school, then tutored international students in chemistry as a high schooler and went on to be a paid study buddy (for various subjects) and geology tutor in college. I also helped teach a geology 101 lab. As much as I encourage casual dialogue as a better setting for learning, I guarantee that my experience and professionalism shine through to get you the help you want.
All in all, I am a very friendly, laid back person who loves humor and fried rice. I have a Boston Terrier named Gruntilda whose favorite food is cashews. I am a very tolerant 24-year-old queer man with lots of life experience and no capacity to judge.

As a kinesthetic learner with ADHD and previous math anxiety, I can guarantee patience and zero judgment if you need things explained in different ways. My dad is a teacher and has a saying: "you don't know until you learn!"
My widespread knowledge of nature and the sciences helps me frame solutions in unique and simple ways. Many subjects in science follow common threads, such as looking for the simplest explanation for an observation. I help highlight those simple themes to help you understand your subject, as well as aiding in your general science literacy.
In my 10 years of tutoring experience, I have helped students ages 7 to 30. Most of my experience is with elementary and college students. A typical lesson plan involves lots of basic examples, frequent checks for understanding, and casual dialogue where questions are welcome. Also plenty of jokes.
