About James
I am a professional engineer and UCL Engineering MSc graduate with Distinction, offering clear, structured Physics tuition for KS3 and GCSE students.
I have over six years of professional engineering experience, where physics is not simply something I have studied for exams — it is something I have applied to solve real-world engineering problems.
This allows me to help students understand not only how to answer Physics questions, but why the underlying principles work. Topics such as forces, energy, electricity, pressure, heat transfer and efficiency become much easier to understand when they can be connected to practical examples.
I specialise in helping students who may understand parts of Physics but struggle to bring the ideas together, apply equations confidently or know how to approach unfamiliar exam questions.
My aim is to develop three things:
a clear understanding of the underlying Physics;
confidence with calculations and problem solving;
strong GCSE exam technique.
I believe Physics becomes much easier when students learn to reason through a problem rather than simply memorise equations and definitions.
Lessons are tailored to each student's current level, exam board and target grade.

My lessons are calm, structured and interactive, with complex topics broken down into clear and manageable steps.
We focus on:
understanding the physical principles behind each topic;
learning how and when to use equations correctly;
working confidently with calculations, units and rearranging formulae;
applying knowledge to unfamiliar problems;
improving GCSE exam technique and written explanations;
identifying gaps in knowledge and strengthening weaker areas.
The first lesson is used to understand the student's current level, goals and areas they find most difficult. I then build future lessons around those individual needs.
Where useful, I draw on my professional engineering experience to show how the Physics being studied is applied in the real world. This helps make abstract concepts easier to visualise and understand.
Online lessons use a shared digital whiteboard, allowing us to draw diagrams, work through calculations and solve questions together in real time. Students can receive the worked notes after the lesson for revision.
After each lesson, I also provide a short summary of what we covered and what the student should practise next.
