About George
Hi, I’m George — a fully qualified secondary school History teacher with a passion for helping students succeed. I currently teach at the only Ofsted Outstanding-rated secondary school in Wigan and have recently worked as an AQA examiner, marking GCSE History papers in summer 2025. This experience means I don’t just know the curriculum — I know exactly how it’s assessed. I understand what examiners are looking for, and I use that insight to guide students towards better exam technique, clearer writing, and higher marks. I take pride in delivering focused, supportive, and professional tutoring. My lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, helping them break down complex topics, improve their confidence, and tackle exam questions with clarity and structure. Whether your child is aiming for a Grade 9 or working towards a secure pass, they’ll receive clear guidance, patient support, and high-quality teaching in every session. I hold a degree in History and Politics from a Russell Group university, and I’ve been teaching GCSE History for over two years. As a qualified secondary school History teacher and AQA examiner, I bring both classroom experience and exam insight into every tutoring session. My approach is focused, supportive, and exam-driven — designed to help students build both their knowledge and confidence. Teaching Methodology I tailor each session to the individual student, identifying their strengths, gaps, and preferred learning style. I break down complex topics into manageable chunks and use active questioning, visual aids, and practice exam questions to reinforce learning. I place a strong emphasis on exam technique — especially how to approach source questions and structure high-mark essays — using real examiner expectations from AQA. Lesson Structure Typical lessons last 60 minutes, but I can adapt depending on the student’s needs and attention span. Each session includes: A quick recap of prior knowledge A clear focus/topic for the session Guided explanation and discussion Practice and feedback (exam questions, content checks) Summary and next steps Qualifications & Experience Qualified History teacher working at Wigan’s only Outstanding secondary school Russell Group degree in History & Politics from the University of Liverpool 2+ years of teaching experience AQA GCSE History examiner (Summer 2025) Who Are the Lessons For?
