About Tilly
I am an undergraduate English student at the University of Southampton. After finishing sixth-form, I decided to take a gap-year in order to work as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school, specifically within the English department. Becoming a teacher has always been my dream, and I saw this as the perfect experience for me! I loved my time at the school, but am now ready to be back to being a student myself at university.
I know firsthand that schoolwork and learning can be so challenging, but with my tutoring I believe to be encouraging and learn at a pace that suits the student.

My approach to learning and teaching is significantly influenced by my time working as a Teaching Assistant in the English department. During this experience, I worked closely alongside English teachers to understand how to effectively provide a lesson that will benefit and suit the student's needs. I was then able to perform these techniques when conducting small tutoring groups and providing 1-1 support. As well as this, I worked closely with the SEN department in the school, which provided me with the skill of a scaffolding approach to help students build on their existing knowledge and become more independent learners.
I have learned that typically the most beneficial lesson length would be an hour, to provide the balance of valuable learning, without feeling overwhelmed by new information.
Due to my experience of being a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school, my English lessons would be aimed for those in either the KS3 level or GCSE level. My grade A in A-Level English Literature, as well as my new knowledge as a 1st year Undergraduate English student, provides me with the confidence and comprehension to provide advantageous tutoring of English.
