About Emily
I attended St. John's College where I earned a BA in the Great Books of Western Civilization ((concealed information) After reading the classics for four years I went on to work for a literary agent. From there I moved back to NYC, where I worked in a variety of roles in the publishing industry. I was a senior publicist when I moved on to work at a few PR agencies and eventually go out on my own as a freelance publicist. Recently I went in-house at a start-up where I'm the Director of PR.

Fun is always first and foremost, with the shared goal of fluency. I am passionate about words and language. Just in the way that food and music give us insight into another person's culture, language is an immediate way to see commune in another world. To reveal our shared humanity. It's important that it's not a mundane task because it's not a mundane endeavor. I generally break my sessions into parts of a pie, so that we're constantly moving forward and changing. From a cognitive perspective, it's key that we don't overwhelm the mind and we don't allow boredom to come in because then we don't learn. It's also important to work with as many of the senses as possible. Fluency is by no means a purely academic endeavor and it shouldn't be treated as such. When you speak to people about how they learned another language, often times it's from watching cartoons or television shows. We can make this fun and be effective.
