I break up mathematics by topic.
First we understand the problem we are trying to solve (often using real world examples/diagrams and models) , or the idea of the technique.
Then we look at the steps needed to find a solution to the problem.
We then cover common mistakes and how to correct them.
I think it is important for a student to understand why the skills they are learning are being taught, to give them inspiration to understand the value of the techniques they are taught.
Aat the end of each lessons we will recap the topic, and attempt to iron out any pitfalls or struggles.
