Anna Gonzalez Noguchi was a Fine Art student at Brighton University from 2011-2014 she received a BA (Hon’s) in Fine Art Sculpture. She was an exemplary student, innovative and ambitious achieving a First in both her written and practical work.
Anna’s work reflected her interest in the post-modern condition, notions of narrative, representation and identity within sculptural contexts. Initially re contextualizing found and made objects and then developing and testing her ideas using drawing video, photography and performance in order to explore these themes, her real achievement was translating her position into an individual, material, formal sculptural language. Installed with a tight formal control and a visual elegance, the work was a concentrated distillation achieved through rich research and formal reworking of the pieces, using structured observations that mirrored two different cultures that defined her within a bicultural identity.

Anna was extremely hard working and quick to master new sculptural techniques. Her extensive research and highly disciplined organisational skills enabled her to develop ambitious and highly successful projects; all were underpinned by a consistent and rigorous application of theory and ideas within the conceptual discourse of contemporary practice.

Anna’s broad knowledge and enthusiasm made her contribution on the course invaluable. Throughout the course students presented and critically analysed the development of their work, Anna was particularly active in this area. She relishes critical debate that allows an examination of theoretical, historical and philosophical contexts in relationship to contemporary art practice, her articulate engagement in other students work was invaluable to the whole group. She was popular, engaging, warm and considerate student who contributed fully to the department as a whole.

Without any reservations I recommend her to you. She has a strong body of work behind her, exhibiting in a number of shows since leaving university,she went on to complete a MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art and continues to exhibit her work extensively both here and abroad. Anna is full of ideas, confident and competent and ready and able to offer her best, she would be an asset to your organization.
