About Alex
As someone who has studied maths to a high level, and worked as maths teacher, I am both enthusiastic about the subject and familiar with how easy it can be for a student to "fall through the gaps" in the modern classroom. In a class of 30+ students, a young person who doesn't demand the teacher's attention may well not get it, and as a result may not fully grasp the material, or not reach their full potential. My tutoring can provide the level of careful explanation and constructive feedback to help you do the best you can.

Hi! I am a fully qualified (PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status) secondary mathematics teacher with experience both as a secondary maths teacher and as a private tutor. I also have a PhD in Algebraic Geometry, though that's probably not immediately relevant! I tutor to GCSE and A level (or equivalent), and I can also tutor to undergraduate level (please enquire). I have a relatively "traditional" approach to tutoring, focusing on guided practice and quizzing. Of course I'm more than happy to explain and clarify material that has been missed or poorly understood in class - but our time is best spent doing exercises. It is my firm belief that the best way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics.
