About Keven
I have been involved with education in some capacity for the past decade over a multitude of positions. In my current job as a teacher, I offer support to students who struggle to make sense of the challenging processes of reading and writing. My experience spans across grade levels and I have offered tutoring services to students between ages 5 and 15. I love to laugh, and will find humor in just about anything. I approach struggles with lighthearted curiosity that helps students feel at ease, and even allows them to laugh at their own mistakes.

I'll take time getting to know your learner's strengths and interests and use those as opportunities to enhance evidence-based approaches that address the barriers they're facing. It may involve incorporating movement into phonics lessons for early readers who need more practice, or encouraging older students to build their vocabulary by weaving it into conversations they want to have. I engage students through genuine interest, respect, and kindness which allows my tutoring sessions to feel playful and non-judgmental. This approach serves English well, as a big part of language arts involves their ability to "play" with language and ideas. For students needing more immediate intervention with reading and spelling, I offer support by honing in on the rules of the English language and give students the chance to practice those rules through games and activities.
