About James
I have been tutoring online and teaching group-classes in Montreal and since my last year of university in 2018.
I love teaching because no student or lesson is ever the same, and I have to continually adapt my style and content to the level of the student in order to help you improve as fast as possible.
Students learn best when they are interested and engaged by the conversations in the class, so it is always a fun new challenge for me to adapt lesson plans so they are specific to the interests of my student.
I look forward to meeting you, hearing about your goals with English, creating a plan to achieve them, and motivating you along the process. I'm sure we will have some interesting conversations during the process!

My classes are inspired by Professor Steven Krashen's famous "theory of second language acquisition".
A student's progress depends on:
1. A positive, relaxed, low anxiety environment
2. Conversations that include topics that interest the student
3. Studying material slightly above the student's current level, but not too high.
My lessons are conversation based and designed to allow as much real life conversation practice as possible. I hope we will be in conversation 90% of the time. I often use interesting YouTube videos or articles to start discussions.
After this, I will choose a short grammar exercise to improve on one of your weak areas.
I will suggest reading and writing exercises for you to do outside of class.
All students (absolute beginners included) should be immersed in the native language from the beginning. It requires patience and positivity but it is the fastest way to improve!
Many of my students are aiming to improve their English to a specific level in order to get a new job or win points for their immigration application. For example, they currently have a A2 level (advanced beginner) and want a B2 level.
If this is the case, I evaluate your level and provide a strategy and tips to reach the next level.
