About Alex
I am a friendly, approachable, first year medical student at the University of Nottingham.
I have developed a passion for my subjects during my A levels and medical school. Chemistry and biology have always appealed to me since - as a future medic I have always been interested in how these subjects form the basis of medicine. Maths has also been one of my favourite subjects for a while now – as I enjoy the problem solving side of things!
I recognise that not everyone will have a passion for the subjects they are studying or necessarily want to progress with them in the future! Either way, I will help you achieve the highest grades possible and put you in the best position to achieve your goals. I will be able to make the subject manageable with my clear explanations and patient approach, and hopefully peak your interest in the subject at the same time!
I have tutored before and my patience and approachability have been commented on by past tutees. Also, I have recently done these exams and so I am familiar with the A level and GCSE syllabuses; I will use my knowledge and past experiences to deliver an individual flexible approach to learning, as well as give you advice and tips on how to learn most efficiently and succeed in your exams.
Also, If you are aiming for a career in medicine, I have recently gone through the application process and will be able to put you in the best position for your application, as well as put the subjects you are studying into a medical context!

Having tutored for 5-6 years now, working with a wide range of ages for various companies & privately, I have developed my proactive and adaptable teaching method for each individual student. I find a specialised and flexible approach works best – making my sessions tailored to you and you only!
That being said, the first sessions follow a similar layout of discussing the syllabus and ranking topics to uncover a hierarchy of what you find most challenging. This is how I will personalise the sessions for you!
Prior to sessions, we'll discuss the topics of importance to you, so I can structure the upcoming lesson with crucial learning points for said topic. This includes questions, notes, diagrams, and examples to help you understand concepts. My lessons are interactive; I ask students to think aloud and discuss how they came to their answer - aiding in-depth understanding of concepts! Then, we will apply key points to exam questions (practising exam technique). Additionally, tackling any confusion regarding certain topics or homework questions.
I like to introduce strategies I have used in the past and present (if my student feels they too can benefit from them!) Using a strategy involving spaced repetition and active recall, utilising a flashcard website (Anki) or traditional notetaking.
I will use my knowledge and past experience to provide tailored and personalised sessions, advice for success in exams and optional help in the application process for university (and med sch)!
