About Surya
Here is a bit about me :)
My name is Surya Rooplal and I go by the pronouns of she/her. I am a 16-year-old girl in the French immersion program. I have obtained the certification of being bilingual and intend to expand on this by completing the DELF exam. Furthermore, I have completed my years of high school (2 years) as a 90% and above honours student. I am involved in many leadership programs such as student council as an athletic director, countless sports teams as a captain and volunteer based neighbourhood programs.

When tutoring I believe it's most important to connect with the tutee. For me this means making sure each lesson is unique to the student in order to ensure they are most beneficial and engaging. To further this I approach teaching with a positive attitude and a kind demeanour! However, I too like to take a step back and do some learning myself, letting tutees teach me about them in order to create personalized lesson plans with their interests as a source of motivation.
General Lesson Plan :
While I do modify lessons per student here is my outline!
1) I will typically begin with an overview of what we will be learning and if there is something specific that needs to be worked on within the session (as per the request of the student+ parent).
2) Teach or expand on a topic specific to the student within the french language in an interactive fashion.
3) Work on an activity with the student to adjust them to the technique.
4) Have them independently complete/start a similar activity.
5) Review their work leading to a reflection of their progress in this lesson:
- In what way did they improve?
- where is there room for improvement and what can we do to change that?
- Did they enjoy this style of activity?
6) End the session with resources to help tutees improve and words of motivation!

- French Immersion student for 10 years (gr.1-10)
- Have worked with all age groups -- expertise in ages 3-12 years
- Taught children how to skate ( ages 3+)
- Volunteered in a kindergarten classroom for 3 years
- Co-ran a neighbourhood camp (2019-2021)
- Coached children's Basketball
- Multi-sport Athlete -- Captain
- Awarded the Heart of Gold trophy for my success and efforts with children ( as a skating coach)
