About Alison
I'm Alison - I'm a Northerner living in London, I'm a Classics graduate and I love languages. I've kept up my French since A-Level for my own enjoyment, and learnt Latin and Ancient Greek at university as well. Ancient and modern languages have very different teaching methods, and because of my experience learning both, I know what works for me and what doesn't and I can use this to be a more engaging teacher.

I remember, during my own GCSEs, struggling to memorise my entire composition because I did not have the grammatical knowledge to be able to get back on track if I had said something wrong or missed a sentence. For this reason, I think grammar is very important for fluency and will focus a lot on that. I will also encourage my students to add French to their everyday lives - for example, by watching their favourite films in a French dub, or reading books they enjoyed when they were younger in French - all of this helps improve fluency and is fun as well. My lessons last one hour and are ideally for GCSE and A-Level students who want to be able to actually speak French, rather than just have the qualification.
