About Vanessa
I bring both formal training and real classroom experience to my tutoring. I hold a teaching degree and a master’s degree from l’Université de Montréal, and I have taught French as a Second Language to high school students in Ottawa. I have also evaluated students working toward their B2 DELF certification, which gives me a clear understanding of what is expected in language assessments.
My goal as a tutor is to create a professional, supportive, and encouraging learning environment. I take the time to understand each student’s goals, current level, strengths, and challenges so that our lessons are useful, focused, and adapted to their needs.
I especially enjoy helping adults, including federal government employees, build confidence in French and work toward their language requirements. Whether the goal is oral communication, exam preparation, workplace French, or simply feeling less intimidated by the language, I aim to make the process clear, structured, and motivating.
Students can expect patience, preparation, honest feedback, and a sense of humor — because learning French should be serious enough to work, ..but not so serious that you need to lie down after a session.

Bonjour! My name is Vanessa, and I help people learn French without making them feel like French is a scary, salivating monster.
I have a teaching degree from l’Université de Montréal and taught French as a Second Language to high school students in Ottawa. I also evaluated students working toward their B2 DELF certification.
These days, I especially enjoy helping adults who work for the federal government meet their French language requirements. Whether you are preparing for an oral exam, trying to survive meetings in French, or wondering why French has so many rules that would make anyone need to take slow breaths, I am here to help.
My approach is: we figure out how you learn best. I adapt quickly, explain things clearly, and try to make the process enjoyable enough that you do not dread your next lesson. The goal is not to make things too easy, because then nothing changes. But it is also not to overwhelm you until you stare at the screen questioning every life decision that brought you here. We aim for the sweet spot: challenged, engaged, and still emotionally intact.
I usually start with listening and speaking because feeling more confident in real conversations is magical. Reading and writing can come in as needed, depending on your priorities. My goal is to help you build confidence, autonomy, and actual usable French — not just textbook French that disappears the second someone says “ben là.”
I also hold a master’s degree from l’Université de Montréal and taught there during my studies. I eventually left full-time teaching to work in a related field, but I continue tutoring French because I genuinely love seeing people go from “I can’t do this” to “wait… I understood that.”
Teaching French as a Second Language is a science, but watching someone become proud of their French and believe in their abilities? That part is pure joy. Yes!
